Genesis
1:1 - 2:4
The Biblical seven day account of creation is an allegory, a mnemonic for a people just beginning to preserve their collective memory by way of worshiping their One Supreme God. The symbolic days represent the millions of centuries that passed before our memory was born.
They, the people of Abraham, would tell and retell this and other stories for thousands of years, both before and after they developed the ability to write it down.
Does it astound you that the Hebrews' collective memory stretches back into everyone else's prehistory? It does me.
So here it is -- the seven days of creation backwards:
Day 7 - Resting is for
those who have been working. You might ask why God needed to rest at all. Two
things; first, God set the example for His people, and B, biological evolution
had done its thing. It was time for God to to let social evolution happen, and
to raise one particular community of brand new humans.
Day 6 - There would be
no social evolution without humans to socialize in the first place, and there
would be no humans if other mammals hadn’t evolved before us.
Day 5 - Mammals
couldn’t have evolved if fish, reptiles, and birds hadn’t already been here.
Day 4 - None of our
species would have evolved as we are unless She (Earth) had settled into the
Goldilocks zone around the star we used to call Sol (Am I the only one who
thinks it's a better name than "the Sun?").
Day 3 - Plants are
important. They evolved from the cosmically seeded building blocks of
microorganisms and early plant forms. Of course, our plants wouldn't exist unless there was both land and water.
Day 2 - The Earth
didn’t always have an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere. In addition to the gasses she
spewed from her molten core, cosmic accidents and the laws of gravity
provided water and additional gasses to clothe our infant Mother
goddess Earth (molten core -- how common is that cosmically speaking?
(No...really...I want to know)).
Day 1 - Mother was born of star stuff, so the stars must have already been created. Creating stars in a void -- man -- that sure would take a Big Bang -- “Let
there be Light!”

I guess all that took around 168
hours -- give or take fourteen-billion years.
OK -- I hear you -- you want to
know if the man was the first man ever.
Yeah…ummm…errr…NO
For now, let’s say that he was
the first man the ancient Hebrews knew of. Their first man was the first named ancestor of
King David and the High Priests of Israel. To them, Adam was the
first man in the world. That only makes the Hebrews just like most of the other ancient
peoples who had their own first men.
The best way to understand Adam's origin is to tell the story.

It's never too late to use the comments
section; ask questions, talk among yourselves; it’s all good...
It would be very cool if you would ask any nagging Bible questions you might be carrying around. I’m not saying I
can answer all of them, but I bet I can do weekday posts on most of them, and
at least address the rest.
Peace Out, Y’all.
The chart blows my mind. especially day one. How can a bang happen from nothing? Do I really know what Steven Hawking is on about? "Let there be light", that's how it all banged into humans.
ReplyDeleteI like days two through five. It all lines up neatly with how the Earth was made and we're not around to interfere.
On day six things get interesting because it's our birthday.
God gives it all to man. Humans are the dominant species on the planet. We even have a limited capability to transplant life beyond Earth's surly bonds.
And breath for a day.
resistance is futile. The Ancient Hebrews called the Big Bang, making it an idea as old as our memory.
