Stand With the Kneelers

Our flag represents more than our military. It doesn’t belong to our military. It belongs to We The People. It represents We The People.

Are you offended by the form of protest more and more athletes are choosing?

Good.

It’s a protest. It’s supposed to be offensive.

And We the People are the intended targets.

The problem here is that the wrong people are offended for the wrong reasons.

With all due respect, let’s separate the military/veteran issues (the issues not the vets) from the situation that prompted the protest in the first place, because even now, that’s why so many athletes are taking a knee.

We The People aren’t living up to the promises of our founding ideals. People of color (I dream of the day when we don’t have to qualify) live in the shadow of suspicion Every Day, and we wonder why they’re so paranoid and why they never want to cooperate with us.

In too many cases that shadow results in death at the hands of those (on the local level) who are supposed to protect civilized behavior. How’s that not just a little f-- messed up?

You’re fixin’ to blame it on the people of color aren’t you? Here’s the thing: This is not an SJW or neo-KKK protest. This is a protest against a sickness we were born with and just can’t seem to shake. So,

I DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHO’S TO BLAME. WE THE PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE

We have real enemies. We don’t need to be one of them.

Just in case you’re wondering, the NFL protest is more than posturing and lime light grabbing. The players are committing millions of dollars to street level programs and organizations. That makes them part of the solution, so I’ll make a bet with you.

I’ll bet you if the mass of offended people start holding their local peace officers accountable, and start making overt gestures of reconciliation (like…raising funds for the same charities the players support (even if you don't need them in your city)), our athletes will not only stand for the National Anthem, they’ll cheer it.

If I lose, I’ll shut up. If I win…well, I guess that would mean We all win.

The comment section is easy to use.

Peace Out Y’all

  1. Whenever I make a bold prognostications, I bet an beer(s).

Hold yourself accountable, hold your constabulary accountable and donate meaningful time or money to local charity. What could possibly go wrong? How hard can it be?

    Peace.
